Alamosa Colorado...San Luis Valley

Blanca, in the heart of the Sangre de Cristo’s, is the fourth tallest mountain in the state. From just about everywhere in the valley, you’ll have stunning views of this beautiful mountain.

 

great sand dunes national parkAlamosa, with a population close to 8,000, is the largest city in the San Luis Valley. Alamosa provides a home to Adams State College, Trinidad State College, San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, shopping, and more. Alamosa is the hub of the valley.

The San Luis Valley is over 80 miles long and 50 miles wide. Spectacular mountain ranges surround the valley. On the west side, the San Juans create the perfect backdrop for colorful sunsets.

Alamosa is within a four hour drive of both Denver and Albuquerque. Colorado Springs and Santa Fe are less than three hours away. Durango, Taos, Pueblo, Gunnison, and many other smaller cities are less than two hours away.

In Alamosa, you will enjoy four distinct seasons with over 350 days of sunshine each year. At 7,544 feet in elevation, our summers are pleasantly cool with a July average temperature of 65 degrees. Expect about 8 inches of moisture a year. Winters can be cold, but are generally very sunny. In January, temperatures average about 17 degrees. You’ll find winter driving conditions to be quite good.

Agriculture is the dominant industry in the valley. San Luis Valley potatoes are delicious! Lettuce and spinach are also widely grown. Valley farmers also grow high-quality barley.
